The holidays are upon us - the time of year when there’s festive food everywhere
you turn. In fact, many foods are linked with specific holidays - Thanksgiving turkey,
Christmas pudding, Chanukah cookies and chocolates and the traditional delicacies
of Kwanzaa. If you deny yourself these treats, you might feel as if the holidays have
passed you by. But you’ve worked hard all year to maintain your weight, so don’t let
overindulgence during the holiday season harm your health and weight objectives.
Here are some helpful tips to enjoy holiday treats in moderation without sabotaging
your weight-management program.
Healthy Tips for the Holidays
- EAT BEFORE YOU GO.
If you're headed to a party where there will be
tempting goodies and desserts, enjoy a Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix, Formula 1 Instant or High-Protein, Low-Carb Shake before you leave
home to fill you up. When you arrive, find some healthy vegetables to snack
on, so you don’t feel left out.
- SOCIALIZE!
Parties aren’t just for eating, they’re primarily social events.
So, keep your mouth busy talking and your mind busy listening, rather than
focusing on food. Step away from the buffet! Keep temptation out of reach!
- DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
Stay hydrated to keep yourself healthy - it
will also give you a feeling of fullness, so you won’t want to eat as much.
- MINIMIZE ALCOHOL.
Alcohol adds many extra (and unwanted)
calories and it weakens your resolve to resist treats.
- CURB HUNGER.
If you’re going to eat a late dinner following an event
and you know you’ll be famished when it’s finally time to eat, take along
snacks like High-Protein, Low-Carb Bars (12 grams of hunger-fighting protein per bar) or High-Protein, Low-Carb Roasted Soy Nuts with Cardia®† Salt, to tide you over.
- EXERCISE!
The more energy you expend, the fewer pounds you’ll pack
on if you do overeat. With a busy holiday schedule you may not have
time for formal exercise, so park at the end of the lot and walk to the building,
go up the stairs instead of taking the elevator and find other ways to
keep moving. If you can spend just 30 minutes a day doing a calming
exercise like yoga, you may find it beats your holiday stress, too! Stressing
out can lead to overeating any time of year.
- CELEBRATE!
It's fine to give into temptation occasionally, so enjoy the
foods that make the holidays special. Just eat in moderation. And remember,
if you’re giving a holiday party and doing the cooking, don’t feel that you
have to taste everything again... and again... and again!
What’s the payoff? Exercising self-control
during the holidays means less
of you in January! So enjoy the season,
don’t miss out on the dishes that are
such an integral part of the holidays,
and let Herbalife help you with the
following appetite suppression and
anti-craving aids.
